PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO depicts the familial bonding and the conflict amongst family members skilfully. The vibrant colours [costumes, sets] and opulence make it a visually arresting experience. The 10-song-burdened musical-costume drama is captivating, the emotional moments are punctuated wonderfully and the finale enhances the seamless narrative. Each frame looks elegant bungalows, set within a princely things, vintage cars, shahi dawat, so colorful & grand.

Location : Rajkot in Gujrat & Udaipur in Rajasthan.

Story : The story starts in Ayodhya with Prem Dilwala(Salman Khan) and his entry dialogue “ Kisi Ke Haath Chalte Hai, Kisi Ke Pair Chalte Hain. Prem decides to visit Pritampur to get a glimpse of Maithili with his ever-dependable friend Kanhaiya(Deepak Dobriyal), He looked wonderful as Sita in the beginning.

In Pritampur, Enter Deepraj Rana, Diwanji(Anupam Kher), Yuvraj Ajay(Neil Nitin Mukesh)(younger brother of Vijay), Chirag Singh(Armaan Kohli), Rajkumari Chandrika(Swara Bhaskar) and Rajkumari Radhika(Aashika Bhatia). The younger brother wants to take over the reins and come out of living in the shadows of Vijay and the two Rajkumaris have hatred for Vijay due to injustice meted out to them.

PRDP is 80% songs, 5% Drama, 2% Action, 13% your guess ??) , with a big family , loads of marigold flowers , Ghagra-Chunri-Lehnga , anti-hero within family and painful experience of the lead duo.

Will the family unite? Will brotherhood prevail? Will the sisters be happy? What about Prem Dilwala? What about Maithili? Watch the movie .

Characters :
Salmman Khan
[ prem Dilwale & Yuvraj vijay singh-Prince of Pritampur] : Salman rocks and delivers outstanding and a very adorable performance. He raises lot of laughs and also impresses as he essays the bade dilwala Prem with utmost sincerity. Also, he does great as Vijay. speaks decent English . Is endearing, earnest, & makes you feel his love,
Sonam Kapoor [ Raj kumari Maithili Devi]: looks stunning , fine performance. Watch out how she shows her nakhra in ‘Jab Tum Chaho’ or during and before the song ‘Jalte Diye’
Neil Nitin Mukesh [ Yuvraj Ajay singh ]: looks dashing . Though his portrayal of evil is as convincing as GabbarSingh playing Santa claus !!
Anupam Kher [ Diwan saheb/ bapu]: damn good and gives a restrained as well as a funny performance!
Armaan Kohli [ Chirag singh] : CEO of Pritampur Empire , does fine with his baritone voice, physique and personality .Wonder why he refuses to take off his shades through out the film !
Swara Bhaskar [Rajkummari Chandrika ] : vijay's step sister, is a powerhouse of talent .
Ashika bhatia [ rajkumari Radhika] : vijay's step sister , leaves mark
Deepak Dobriyal [ Kanhaiya] : prem's friend , provides more than comic relief, looks good in all the 3 looks.
Deepraj Rana as Sanjay, The Security-in-Charge of the Royal Palace , Samaira Rao as Sameera , Sanjay Mishra as Chaubey Ji (Head of Circus troupe) ,S M Zaheer as Doctor , Lata Sabharwal as mother of Radhika and Chandrika, poet of Royal Family and Suhasini Mulay as grand mother of Maithili - all are brilliant

Pros : Direction, screenplay with some modernization, Cinematography , Salman Khan, Good 1st Half, Chemistry between Salman & Sonam Kapoor and the Visuals .

Cons : too long, editing , weak plot ,Poor Climax, Screenplay, Outdated story Line

Music : 10 songs in the movie. None might rule the chart , although every song is matching the plot. Jalte diye and Tod Tadaiyya are great idea & beautifully picturised .Some of the dubsmashes of the title song are watchable ( featuring a snake trying to ape Sonam's thumkas). one of the songs is for 13 minutes.

Some interesting facts about PRDP :
1- The tunics and saris give the lavish fabrics of Cinderella a run for their money;
2 - Mythology mixed with modernity: the Prince’s horse-drawn carriage arrives with Forbes magazine in its reading rack,
3 - The computer generated long shots of the 'Sheesh Mahal' (a glass structure in the middle of a lake) are surreal and look like something on offer in Poundland.
4 -PRDP is turning out to be a huge commercial success, earning a whopping $ 9 million in its first four days, from International Markets.
5 - The Hollywood stunt director Greg Powel has choreographed the action scenes . He is famous for Harry potter , skyfall etc.

Some of the best scenes:
  • Prem’s entry
  • The accident
  • All songs
  • The raj tilak ceremony
  • The intermission point
  • The climax
Bottom line : neat clean romantic story, a decent family entertainer.
A shuddh Desi Blockbuster ! PRDP is a must watch movie.
