Good news for para-teachers in Bengal! Education Minister announces hike in salary and jobs
July 9 (AZINS) Ahead of next year's Lok Sabha election, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee has announced massive hike in salary of para-teachers. Also Chatterjee announced huge increase in the number of posts for para-teachers in the state.
Partha Chatterjee made the announcement at a meeting of TMC para-teachers wing at Netaji Indoor stadium in Kolkata. Para-teachers are those who assist teaching in schools and are not full-time teachers. Chatterjee announcing the pay hike said 22,085 of them at the primary level and 26,585 at the higher secondary level will be benefitted by it. The new pay scale will be applicable from March 1, this year.
Currenty those para teachers in primary schools who are getting Rs 5954 per month will get a monthly salary of Rs 10,000. Those in higher secondary schools will get Rs 13,000 per month up from Rs 8,500 at present. Women para-teachers will get maternity benefits and their retirement age would be 60 years.
In both primary and higher secondary schools, para-teachers will be entitled to Provident Fund facility. Partha Chatterjee also announced a significant increase in number of para-teachers to be hired by the government. Currently, para-teachers are 10% of the permanent teachers in a school. To improve quality of education, West Bengal government has announced to increase it to 30%.
