Instagram considering feature to post long-form video content; will be an extension of Insta StoriesJune 6 (AZINS) In what could threaten YouTube’s popularity, Facebook-owned Instagram is reportedly building a feature that will allow users to post hour-long videos.

Currently, Instagram allows allows videos which are only 60 seconds long for the regular feed and 15 seconds for the Stories.

As WSJ reported, the long-form video will be vertical and is likely to be an extension of the Instagram Stories.

According to the report, Instagram in recent weeks has had conversations with content creators and publishers about producing long-form videos for the platform. The feature, if it launches, will do so within the Instagram app.

The decision to launch long-form video comes two years Stories was launched. The Stories feature allows users to share photos and multiple short videos of up to 15 seconds uploaded within a 24-hour time-span. Instagram Stories is now one of the app’s most popular and fastest-growing features, according to the company, with about 300 million daily users.

The longer video option on Instagram aligns with recent moves by Facebook to make video a bigger focus of its offerings. This push has given Facebook an entree into additional video advertising, which sells at higher rates than other kinds of digital advertising.

Recently it was reported that Instagram would tell people the amount of time they were spending on the app. Instagram's Android app has a code buried inside for Usage Insights feature. It will show you the the time spent on the platform, TechCrunch reports.

It is not clear if it will show the total time or based on day, week or month. However, it will provide users with measurement of their time on the platform and in turn, also help the company better analyse the usage pattern to further provide a tailored experience.
