Elon Musk shares video of 'mini submarine' that could save boys trapped in Thai caveJuly 9 (AZINS) Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has offered his services to rescue the boys trapped in a cave in Thailand, recently released a video of him testing the equipment he has designed to rescue the remaining trapped members.

So far, four boys have been rescued and efforts are being made to rescue the others.

The video, tweeted on Sunday, shows a group testing the device, which looked like a small submarine-like vessel, in a Los Angeles high school swimming pool.

Musk said based on “feedback from Thailand,” the engineers built the metallic pod using a large silver tube meant to be affixed to a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

Musk says the sub would be light enough to be carried by two divers and small enough to get through narrow cave gaps.

“With some mods, this could also work as an escape pod in space,” Musk said.

On Saturday, the Tesla CEO tweeted he had several alternative plans, but that he had agreed with his team of experts the best idea was building a small submarine "fitted for a kid".

Musk even floated an idea of inserting a nylon tube through the cave network which would, later on, be inflated to create a tunnel-like structure through which the boys can escape.

His updates came after US and Thai officials confirmed Sunday that four boys had been rescued from a flooded cave network after spending 15 days trapped along with their soccer team and coach.

Musk had earlier tweeted about the boys trapped in the cave on July 4 after someone asked if he would help out. He wrote that he would be "happy to help if there was a way to do so."

The boys, aged between 11 and 16, along with their 25-year-old coach, went missing after their soccer practice on June 23. The team had set out to explore the Tham Luang cave complex in a forest park close to the Myanmar border, Reuters reported.
