'PM Narendra Modi' release date: EC asks makers to book slot after elections 'in interest of free and fair LS polls'April 25 (AZINS) The Election Commission stands by its decision to defer the release of Modi biopic, titled as PM Narendra Modi, until the last phase of Lok Sabha elections. The last phase of Lok Sabha polls would take place on May 19. The Election Commission, comprising of seven officials, saw the film on April 17.

The Supreme court had directed the Election commission to watch PM Narendra Modi and submit a report by April 22. This happened after producers challenged Election commission's decision to stall the release of this film despite getting clearance from Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC).

News agency ANI took to Twitter to confirm the news. It read, "EC: Election Commission is of the view that the movie 'PM Narendra Modi' should not be released till May 19. Poll Body officials say delaying the release will be in the interest of free and fair Lok Sabha elections."

According to Times of India, the Election commission report submitted to the Supremem court mentioned that "more than biography, it is hagiography" and will "tilt the electoral balance" of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The report mentioned, "The committee is of the considered view that the public screening of the movie PM Narendra Modi during the period of model code of conduct will tilt the electoral balance of the particular political party, therefore, the public screening of the movie PM Narendra Modi should not be allowed till last date of poll on May 19 in the ongoing elections."

It added, "Eulogising of the character Narendra Modi is very clear right through the movie. More than biography, it is hagiography. There are several scenes depicting a major opposition party as corrupt and showing them in poor light. Their leaders have been depicted in such a manner that their identification is clear and obvious to the viewers."

Directed by Omung Kumar, featuring Vivek Oberoi in the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PM Narendra Modi was slated to release on April 11. However the Election Commission put a halt to the release on April 10 itself. The movie might now see the day of the light post elections.
