Reliance Jio working on ‘Super App’, likely to provide over 100 servicesMay 2 (AZINS) Reliance Jio is rumoured to be working on a 'super app' to cater to a number of services like mobile recharge, online payments, e-commerce, good and services, others to further advance and establish its hold in the online world.

According to experts, Reliance Jio's 'super app' may replicate WeChat and would put the company in direct competition with Freecharge, Paytm, Flipkart, Snapdeal and Hike.

India is a mobile-first country and any service which could offer a maximum number of online services would definitely find a big user base.

Earlier at Make in Odisha conclave which was held in November last year, Mukesh Ambani said that Reliance is working towards creating the world's first online-to-offline commerce platform. He added that it will transform the lives of merchants across India by enabling them to do everything that large e-commerce giants and enterprises are able to do using technology.

“The ubiquitousness of Jio devices puts Reliance in a powerful position. It can connect its vast ecosystem of its users with a multi-layered fabric, offering a rich array of services, connecting online-to-offline, through a one-stop, super app,” Prabhu Ram, Head, Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR said.

“India is a mobile-first nation and such a self-contained network that offers convenience will find favor with demanding consumers. All of these layers, on top of the Jio devices network, would put Reliance in a pole position to create India’s WeChat,” Prabhu Ram mentioned.

Jio has all the ingredients it needs to make this plan successful – which includes products, supply chain, logistics capability, tech team and internet user base. There is no word on when the service will be launched, but it is expected that more information will be available in the near future.
