Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt starrer 'Gully Boy' is India's official entry for Oscars 2020
Zoya Akhtar's movie Gully Boy featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, has been officially selected as India's entry into Oscars 2020. The film has been nominated in Best International Feature Film (Best Foreign Language film) category for the 92nd Academy Awards.

This happens to be a huge feat for Gully Boy, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Zoya Akhtar. The other films to be nominated for Oscars over the years were - Mehboob Khan’s Mother India (1957), Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay! (1988), and Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan (2001) starring Aamir Khan in the lead role.

Interestingly, Village Rockstars, directed by Rima Das, was nominated for 91st Academy Awards (Oscars 2019). The film was made on a very low budget and had competition from Alia Bhatt-Vicky Kaushal starrer Raazi, Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone-Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmaavat, Rani Mukerji's Hichki, Varun Dhawan starrer October, Mrunal Thakur's Love Sonia, Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Manto, Amitabh Bachchan-Rishi Kapoor's 102 Not Out, Akshay Kumar-Sonam Kapoor-Radhika Apte starrer Padman, Mahanati, Pihu, Kadvi Hawa, Bioscopewala, Bhayanakam, Ajji, Nude and Gali Guliiyan among others.

Apart from Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, Gully Boy also featured Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Verma, Vijay Raaz, Amruta Subhash, Vijay Maurya and Sheebha Chaddha in pivotal roles. The awards will take place on February 9, 2020 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, US.
