'The Sky is Pink': Shonali Bose reveals talking about death and loss helped her bond with Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra's next film The Sky is Pink is based on the life of author and motivational speaker Aisha Choudhary, who died of pulmonary fibrosis in 2015. The film, however, will follow the love story of her parents starring Farhan Akhtar and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Director Shonali Bose revealed during an interview that she needed to bond with the actors for a better understanding, and with Priyanka, it happened fast and easy.

Bollyspice.com quoted Shonali saying, “The key thing for me with all my actors is forming a close, emotional connection. Great performances is so much about the exchange of energy between actors & director, and actors & actors. It happened very fast with Priyanka and me as we spoke about death, my son and her father. These conversations are a core part of the work that went into giving her brilliant performance.”

She also went on to share that the cast and most of the crew broke down while shooting for Aisha's death scene. Shonali shared, “I was in a place of light, peace, and strength on that day (as that has now become my relationship with death) and I was able to hold them in my arms and give them the love and support they needed to be able to perform. Each of them surpassed themselves, giving me goosebumps.”

The Sky Is Pink also stars Zaira Wasim, Rohit Saraf and Farhan Akhtar. The film received success at Toronto International Film Festival and at the BFI’s London India Film Festival this weekend. Produced by RSVP and Roy Kapur Films, in association with S K Global and Purple Pebble Pictures, The Sky is Pink will hit screens on October 11, 2019.
