'This is anything but a publicity stunt': Anurag Kashyap lauds Deepika Padukone for coming in solidarity with JNU
Deepika Padukone visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Tuesday night and stood in solidarity with the students who were protesting against the violence at the campus.

Her visit was seen as positive and brave by some but a publicity stunt for her upcoming film Chhapaak by others.

However, among the people who lauded her for this brave step was director Anurag Kashyap who was in awe of the actress and stated that Deepika visiting JNU and its president Aishe Ghosh sent out not only a strong message of solidarity but also about feeling their pain.

Anurag further added, "There is a definite fear in the atmosphere in the country and Deepika negated that fear. Her doing that has given so much courage across to everyone that we don’t need to fear anymore. For an actor, it can be a publicity stunt, if an actor is going somewhere for just mileage. But Deepika is not just an actor in the film who has got her salary. She has a lot more at stake there and this is anything but a publicity stunt."

Apart from this, Anurag in a tweet urged everyone to go watch Chhapaak on the first day of its release.

Earlier today, Kartik Aaryan had also come out in support of Deepika and said that he respects her for what she did.

"Of course, I respect what Deepika did yesterday and I hope a lot of people would stand up and a lot of citizens should come ahead and talk about it. Strict actions are needed. The way these things are happening, this is not our country, these things should not happen here. I really hope strict actions are taken," he said.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is all set to release on January 10, 2020. The film also stars Vikrant Massey in a pivotal role.
