'Paatal Lok' in trouble, Gorkha community signs online petition to drop sexist slur
'Paatal Lok', produced by Anushka Sharma, has landed into trouble after a sexist slur. The scene in the second episode of the web show has offended the Gorkha community in India. 'Paatal Lok' released on Amazon Prime on May 15.

The Gorkha community filed on online petition demanding that Amazon should mute the slur, blur the subtitles and upload edited video along with an unconditional apology and a disclaimer. The petition was addressed to the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the Minister Prakash Javadekar, Amazon Prime Video and series producer Anushka Sharma.

The second episode, according to The Bhartiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh, was a direct insult to the Nepali community. More so, they felt that it was an example of the wider racist stereotyping of people from India’s northeastern regions.

They argued that the scene would incite racial and sexual slur and rape attempts at women from their community. Nanda Kirati Dewan, President of the Bhartiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh also told The Hindu that they would move court if there is no response from the makers within the next three days.
