Association for India’s Development (Tempe Chapter) will be hosting the popular valley group Sur aur Taal in a concert this weekend. To be conducted at ASU’s Galvin Playhouse, this concert will offer musical hits from Bollywood and its southern counterparts, with foot-tapping and lilting melodies from the Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam and Kannada film industries. Aashiana, the valley’s most popular Bollywood dance group, will be accompanying the artistes on some of the more popular numbers.

The Sur aur Taal group is made up of the following performers:

Mayuri Ray is the senior most artist of the troupe, whose talent has been widely acknowledged in the domestic US subsequent to her performances with Bollywood singers Abhijeet and Usha Uthup. She has several years of training in Hindustani classical music and spans a wide range of rendition styles.

Sudhakar Gopal is software professional and has a versatile vocal talent. He has many years of singing experience and has been teaching Carnatic vocal in the valley for the past few years.

Karthik Raju, a hardware engineer by profession, has many years of continued training in Carnatic classical music and experience of being a part of Dr. Ilayaraja's chorus team during school days. He is a regular performer known to various Indian associations within US.

Kumar Subramanian is a software engineer and possesses a naturally gifted voice. With many years of singing experience, he continues to charm the audience with a richly romantic tonality.

Sriram Subramanyan works as a hardware engineer and is an energetic and entertaining performer in the valley for many years. He is best known for rendering songs with fast pace and mass appeal.

Meghna Rajaraman is a young, budding talent who recently joined 'Sur aur Taal'. She has been a regular performer since childhood with training in Hindustani classical music.

Association of India’s Development (Tempe Chapter) has been raising funds for development projects in India from the Phoenix metro area over the past 7 years. In the course of this time, the organization has grown in size as well as coverage, and has supported various projects covering the broad realms of healthcare, women’s empowerment, education, community development and disaster relief.
