Netflix to finance first Asian film with Bong Joon-ho's 'Okja'Nov 12(AZINS) Netflix is embarking on its first Asian film investment, with the confirmation that it will finance director Bong Joon-ho's $50 million Okja, reports Deadline.

The Korean blockbuster stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Bill Nighy and Kelly Macdonald, while Brad Pitt and Plan B will co-produce. Okja tells the story of a friendship between a girl and an animal named Okja.

Production of Okja is set to begin in Korea and New York in 2016, with an expected 2017 release.

Joon-ho also directed Snowpiercer (2013), which went on to become one of Korea's most expensive productions to date.
