'Just Cause 3' is all about blowing things upMumbai, Dec 7(AZINS) Story

The story puts you in the shoes of Rico Rodriguez and is set in the fictional country, The Republic of Medici. All is not well in Medici, thanks to the dictatorship of Sebastiano Di Ravello who rules the country using his military's firepower.

The protagonist of the story sets out to change that and liberate the country from its oppressive dictator. Although the premise of the story sounds serious, the game is anything but that. You spend most of your time doing things only a superhero could, while dressed like nothing of the sort.

Gameplay

The gameplay largely involves you utilizing everything in Rico's arsenal to create destruction on a massive scale. The game allows you to be as creative as you want to be with this using all the mechanics the game has to offer.

The game's story is forgettable and most of the game's goodness will come through the gameplay that may seem repetitive to you because there is a lot activities in the game are the same – essentially blowing the same things up and liberating settlements. There is some variety available in the different vehicles and weapons available at your disposal. You can use his grappling hook, wingsuit, parachute and vehicles to traverse the massive landscape. The game world of Just Cause 3 is humongous and features over 1,000 square kilometers of playable area and is definitely one of the biggest maps I have ever seen in a video game. The game has a very minimalistic method of relaying information visually to the player and encourages exploration hence has no mini-map.

The game is meant to be larger than life and hence a lot of things will seem unrealistic. Death has no implications whatsoever and it actually helps by getting rid of your heat. The game is also unrealistic in terms of how much damage you can take, bullets hitting you take a while to kill you.

The game is designed to be always online but you can play it offline in two ways, the first method is through the game itself and the second is through Steam's offline mode. I would recommend using the second option because the first option is only available when you have a bad connection to the server and you get disconnected, the problem with this is that the game will keep trying to log you back in, breaking immersion completely.

Challenges

Just Cause 3 has a game mode filled with mini-games to perfect your efficiency at a particular task and earn a high score. These challenges or mini-games allow you to earn upgrades for your characters. Through the challenges, you collect Gears and you use these Gears to unlock upgrades.

PC Port

The game is made by Avalanche and hence the PC port cannot be bad. There are plenty of resolutions and anti aliasing to play with. You can rebind all your controls to be able to give you the playstyle you are used to. I tested the game on a gamepad and it did not seem like I could rebind those buttons.

On the PC, my test bed equipped with the Titan X was able to get a jitter free 60fps with all graphical settings maxed out, at a resolution of 2560x1440. There is bad news for those using SLI or crossfire as NVIDIA's Andrew Burnes has stated "The engine is incompatible with all multi-GPU solutions, so no SLI support at this time." Based on this I did some testing and there was no difference in the performance using SLI, that being said, it is also possible that you may run into issues if you are using multiple GPU's.

Conclusion

Just Cause 3 is not the most realistic game out there, but that is because that is not something that the game was meant to be. The game is meant to be fun and filled with creative moments that help enjoy all the chaos the world has to offer. The game does gives you many ways to do things you did not think you could, all in spectacular fashion. The game doesn't try to do everything and really succeeds at the things that it tries to do. If you enjoyed any of the previous games or like what I described, you will enjoy this one. If you're looking for something serious, look elsewhere.
