New image of Earth-rise released by NASA will take your breath away!Dec 20(AZINS) The recently released stunning image on Friday by NASA will blow your mind. It appears to show the Earth "rising" over the horizon of the moon.

This image was captured by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter ( LRO), which is a robotic spacecraft that has been taking rounds around the moon since 2009. Usually, such an LRO was first used to take images of the moon's surface but earlier this year, this LRO's camera was pointed away from the moon.

This was done so that one could observe the lunar atmosphere. The Earth passed trough these camera's field of view, while it was pointed in that direction. The stunning picture has ben actually made up of a series of photos which were taken in quick succession in mid-October.

The description of the LRO includes a narrow camera angle camera which takes high-resolution images. However in black- and white along with a wide-angle camera, it takes low-resolution images, but put in colour. Thus, this means that obtaining high-resolution image in full colour becomes more complicated than even snapping any photo. It also involves " special processing" according to a NASA news release.

Though the “earth-rise” had actually managed to evoke the sunrise that we’re all familiar with here on Earth, it is guaranteed that you would have never seen such a character of this type of image if you were actually be standing on the moon (as opposed to orbiting around the moon, like the LRO).

According to Huffington Post, Arizona State University’s Mark Robinson mentioned in the NASA release that “Viewed from the lunar surface, the Earth never rises or sets. Since the moon is tidally locked, Earth is always in the same spot above the horizon, varying only a small amount with the slight wobble of the moon.”
