8 unexpected flops of 20152015 gave us some of the most remembered films like Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and the recently released Angry Indian Goddesses. However, the year also saw some big-ticket films going down the drain. Here is a list of such films which never worked out:

1) Bombay Velvet:

Released on:  May 15, 2015

Termed to be director Anurag Kashyap's dream project, Bombay Velvet was labelled an 'epic disaster' after it's release. Though the maker of Dev D had got a good ensemble for his flick with Anushka Sharma, Ranbir Kapoor and even Karan Johar in some great roles, the audience could not respond to the movie with the same love. His repertoire as an extraordinary filmmaker was also brought to test with this out-and-out commercial movie which he clearly could not succeed in. Hoping his next enterprise titled RR2 based on serial killer Raman Raghav's life would come to his rescue.

2) Shaandaar

Released on: October 22, 2015

Unfortunately, the 'shandaarness' of Shandaar could not appease us enough. Director Vikas Bahl was severly criticised for his work in this film after giving an out-of-the box film like Queen. The plot where Shahid Kapoor plays the role of a grand wedding planner could not be grand for the audience. For Alia Bhatt however, it was her only film of 2015 which also dropped badly at the box-office.

3) Shamitabh

Released on: February 6, 2015

The unusual screen pairing of Dhanush and Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to create magic. However, though there was an interesting thought behind the script, it could not make a difference with the people. What did not work out for this film though was its slow plot and huge money invested which the film failed to recover. Sadly for these reasons, Director R Balki and Bachchan's third outing could not create the same magic like Cheeni Kum and Paa.

4) Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! :

Released on : April 3, 2015

Khosla Ka Ghosla director Dibakar Bannerjee was pretty confident to woo the audience with his film adaptation of the hit detective book series of 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!'. Though critically acclaimed, the film could not manage a crack at the box office. The film's lead Sushant Singh Rajput received quite a credit for playing his part as 'Detective Byomkesh'.

5) Hero:

Released on: September 25,2015

Deemed to be the launch film for the star-kids Athiya Shetty and Suraj Pancholi, Nikhil Advani tried re-creating the same magic of the previous flick Hero starring Jacky Shroff and Meenakshi Sheeshadri. However, neither the script nor their act could help elevate the film to any level. Even Salman Khan's singing stint in 'Mai Tera Hero' could not contribute to the success of the film in any way. Thus the verdict -A Big Flop!

6) Katti Batti :

Released on :  September 18,2015

Kangana Ranaut's next flick was highly awaited after Tanu Weds Manu Returns. However, the Hatke pair of Imran Khan and Kangana Ranaut could not do much on the big screens. This was Nikhil Advani's yet another release before Hero but even with 2 film releases in 2015, the Kal Ho Na Ho director could not grab the same glory like his previous hits! Bad year for the director, indeed!

7) Roy

Released on: February 13, 2015

After the disaster of Besharam, we expected Ranbir Kapoor to be back with a bang in Roy. Though Ranbir Kapoor just had an extended cameo in the movie, fans did await its release with bated breath. However, neither the charm of the actor nor the 'fancy' name could attract the audiences towards the cinema theatres. The makers could recover the losses with the popularity of the songs alone which were a raging hit.

8) Phantom

Released on: August 28,2015

Director Kabir Khan, who has been known to give us a peek into the world of Terror, suffered with the release of Phantom. The film, though praised for its action sequences and the plot, failed to hit any chord with the masses. Saif Ali Khan and Kaitrina Kaif who were seen together after Race hardly managed to do much to contribute to its success. Seems like the audiences preferred  Indian sweets over an 'Afghan Jalebi'!

Expecting that filmmakers would take lesson from the past and make 2016 a better and luckier year for themselves.
