The limit of characters to be used challenges people and that's when the abbreviations come to rescue. Not to mention that if you don't know the meaning of these short forms, you might find yourself struggling to understand the conversation.

Twitter abbreviations make Twitter lingo. So to avoid looking like a goof, here is a list to help you know what these abbreviations mean -

AFAIK - As far as I know
BTW - By the way
CC - Carbon-copy. Just like your regular emails
CD9 - Code 9, parents are around
CUL8R - See you later
DP - Your profile picture
DYK - Did you know, Do you know
FF - Follow Friday. To promote Twitter accounts you'd like your followers to follow. Done on Friday, obviously!

FTW - For the win, F--- the world
HT - Hat tip. This is a way of attributing a link to another Twitter user
ICYMI - In case you missed it. Nice way to retweet your own tweets
IDK - I don't know
