'Bridge of Spies', 'Carol' lead the 2016 BAFTA nominations with 9 nods eachLondon, Jan 8(AZINS) British Academy of Film Awards announced the nominations for the year 2016. Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies and Cate Blanchett's Carol top the list with 9 nominations each.

Idris Elba, Bryan Cranston, Mark Rylance, Rooney Mara, and Jennifer Jason Leigh earned their first ever nod from BAFTA.

Leonardo DiCaprio's The Revenant earned nominations for Best actor, Best Film, Best Director for Alejandro G Iñárritu, Original Music, Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki, Editing, makeup, and Sound.

George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road received 7 nominations for technical aspects but none for acting.

Brooklyn and Ridley Scott's The Martian are nominated six times each including a nod for Saoirse Ronan for Best Actress and Matt Damon for Best Actor.

Minions, Shaun the Sheep Movie, and Inside Out are nominated for Best Animated films. Amy, Cartel Land, He Named Me Malala, Listen to Me Marlon, and Sherpa are nominated for Outstanding British Film and Documentary.

The winners will be announced at the ceremony on February 14.
