Free Kesha: Demi Lovato takes on Taylor Swift and 'self-proclaimed feminists' on TwitterFeb 22(AZINS) Demi Lovato isn't afraid of saying what she feels and recently, after raising her voice for Kesha, she is now speaking about women empowerment.

The 23-year-old songstress said in a series of tweets, "Frustrating to see women come forward with their past only to be shot down, not believed and disrespected for their bravery in taking action. Happens way too often. I'm ready for women to be taken just as seriously as men."

She further wrote to her 34 million followers, "Someone tell me why anyone would ever feel brave enough to come forward if they are most likely to be ignored or called a liar? I'm also ready for self-proclaimed feminists to start speaking out or taking action for women's rights."

The messages come just a couple of days after Kesha was overcome with emotion in the courtroom after a judge denied her the request for a preliminary injunction that would allow her to release new music outside of Dr. Luke's purview, who the singer alleges raped her.

The 'Tik Tok' hit-maker's fan immediately got #FreeKesha to trend on social media for several hours as stars including Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Lorde and Kelly Clarkson voiced their support online.

Lovato's tweets were seen as a dig at Taylor Swift's silence, who embraced feminism in 2015 and most recently talked about girl power in her Grammy speech. Swift on Monday donated $250,000 to Kesha as a financial aid for her legal battle against her producer Dr Luke.

When a follower on Instagram accused of Lovato of making it about herself, she responded, "How the f--k am I making this about myself? At least I'm talking about it. Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn't grow up with money and def haven't made as much as her... At least I speak up about s--t that's uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7."

She also said, "There's no 'rivalry' I just give more f--ks than other people and would rather start a dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person... I didn't shade Taylor. If you take it that way than fine. I'm just tired of seeing women use ‘women empowerment' and ‘feminism' to further brands without actually being the ones that have the uncomfortable conversations," she added. "I get shade and I don't give a f--k because someone has to be the one to take it. At least I'm getting my hands dirty."
