This Game Boy does retro gaming in style, with a Raspberry Pi built inMumbai, Apr 10(AZINS) The Raspberry Pi is a pretty amazing product, as far as flexibility goes. The palm-sized computer is fully customisable, meaning it can be used in everything from DIY home projects to teaching kids the basics of programming. So of course, one user went ahead and used it to make a retro-gaming experience.

A gamer who goes by the name of Wermy, recently displayed his proud construction online, a first-generation Game Boy with a Raspberry Pi Zero crammed in. The original Game Boy is great for this sort of project, as the relatively large housing provides ample space for customisation.

Firstly, Wermy added in a 3.5-inch composite display in place of the original screen, as well as added two extra X and Y buttons from an NES controller. Then he's added in an external USB port for when you want to connect a keyboard or mouse, a mini HDMI to plug into a larger display, and a micro USB for charging the 2000mAh battery he built in. On top of that are new L and R buttons (that would come in handy for Game Boy Advance titles) have been placed in what used to be two of the screw housings, and a Bluetooth dongle. But best of all, Wermy wired up an old Game Boy cartridge to work as a micro SD card reader, so he can plug in his game storage, while still retaining the retro feel of slotting in a cartridge and power up the Game Boy. The SD card has RetroPie with Emulation Station, and can run games from the Game Boy to the GBA to SNES.

If you'd like to take a crack at building one of these yourself, Wermy has component parts with links listed below his video, and also hit up his Reddit thread for any questions you might have. You can also check out his Imgur gallery for more photos of the build.
