10 things you didn't know about 'Whiplash'May 10(AZINS) Since time immemorial, the relationship between a teacher and student has been the focal point of countless debates and discussion. Directed and written by Damien Chazelle 'Whiplash' follows the story of Miles Teller, an aspiring jazz drummer and his ruthless music instructor, J. K. Simmons and devotes most of its swift, nerve-racking runtime annihilating each emotional cliché of this relationship.

A film that treads a fine line between the genres of thriller and music, Whiplash is a roller coaster ride that follows the journeys of Andrew, a confident drummer and promising student and Fletcher, the drumming coach from hell who pushes his student until they are either the best of the best in his eyes or immaterial to him. Andrew one of the seemingly fortunate ones to have the privileged tutelage of Fletcher, realises before long that the legendary teacher is something out of every students worst nightmare who uses the first day with the group to toss abuses (and some furniture) and set his pupils against each other in a rash attempt to entice the potentially capable and eliminate the less fortunate.

J K Simmons won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for his wonderful performance in this movie. It went on to win a total of 52 awards and 117 nominations and over $13 million at the worldwide box office with a production budget of $3.3 million. This is a story that will strike a chord with not just parents but even kids.
