Cannes 2016: Julia Roberts turns heads by walking barefoot on red carpetCannes, May 13(AZINS) Julia Roberts made her debut at Cannes Film Festival with Jodie Foster's movie Money Monster, in which she stars alongside George Clooney. In an illustrious career as hers, there was something missing and on Thursday that achievement was unlocked if we may be so bold.

Julia wore Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci jumpsuit for the photocall of the movie. She did away with dresses and showed the bold and confident side of her. For evening she chose a classy, black Armani Prive dress paired with emerald jewels. The dress was reminiscent of the red gown she wore in the movie Pretty Women over 20 years ago.

But that was not the surprising part. Walking up the stairs, Roberts showed her bare feet, indicating she walked most of the red carpet with no shoes on.

This comes as a bold move on the background of what happened at Cannes 2015. At the screening of Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara's movie Carol, organisers allegedly turned away a group of women for wearing no heels. Some of them were in their 50's.

Even after the outrage by Emily Blunt at the premiere of Sicario at the festival last year, the unofficial rule has not changed. It can get very difficult to walk in those shoes given the amount of time these ladies have to stand in front of the flashing cameras giving poses and be perfect. Whereas men ALWAYS wear flats.

Julia Roberts was wearing beautiful black satin peep-toe pumps when she arrived. But during the course of walking, she seems to have removed the shoes to favour ease.

Even though Julia didn't have to face the security over her shoes, this can be one step for gender parity of dress code.
