‘She is my senior officer’: This is what Telangana cop has to say about saluting his IPS daughter

Sep 3 (AZINS) AR Umamaheswara Sarma, a Deputy Commissioner in the Telangana Police, recently came face to face with his daughter, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of 2014 batch. Sarma, who had to salute her daughter as she is senior in rank, said he felt pride in doing so.

While Sindhu Sarma joined the police force four years ago and is now the Superintendent of Police of Jagtiyal district in Telangana, her father has been in the police force for nearly 40 years and is currently serving as DCP in Malkajgiri area under Rachakonda police in Hyderabad.

A year before he is due to retire, Sarma got a chance to work with his daughter and also salute her on duty.

The two came face to face while doing their duty at the public meeting of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at Kongara Kalan on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Sunday.

Both were deployed in the security arrangement of the rally which was addressed by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

"This is the first time we have come together while doing our duties. I am fortunate to work with her," said Umamaheswara Sarma, IANS reported.

Sarma began his career as sub-inspector and was recently conferred the IPS rank. He said he felt proud to salute his daughter as his senior officer.

"She is my senior officer. When I see her, I salute her. We do our respective duties and don't discuss this, but at home we are just like any father and daughter," Sarma said with pride.

Ms Sindhu was also happy to work with her father.

"I am very happy. This is a good opportunity for us to work together," Sindhu Sarma, who was looking after women's security at the 'Pragati Nivedana Sabha' (meeting to report progress) at Kongara Kalan in Rangareddy district, said.
