At mega rally in Rajasthan’s Barmer, Jaswant Singh’s son Manvendra Singh quits BJP, says ‘Kamal ka phool, hamari bhool’

Sep 22 (AZINS) In a major political twist that may impact the electoral fate of Vasundhara Raje government in upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections, former Union minister Jaswant Singh's son and BJP lawmaker Manvendra Singh quit the party on Saturday.

He announced the decision at a press conference after addressing a mega rally at Pachpadra in his Barmer constituency.

Addressing his audience during the ‘Swabhiman’ rally, Singh didn’t mince words and said that joining the Bharatiya Janata Party was a "big mistake".

‘Kamal ka phool, badi bhool,’ he said during the rally.

Singh’s resignation from the BJP may not be exactly surprising for many. Before Saturday’s decision, there were reports that Singh might quit the party.

Some analysts say that Singh was sulking ever since his father Jaswant Singh was denied ticket from Barmer in the 2014 General Elections by the BJP central command.

Singh told his supporters that the spark against the Raje government must be kept alive and should change the leadership in state.

But it is still not clear that whether Singh will join the Congress or not.

When asked about his next step, Singh said that, ‘I would like to thank my supporters. I will do whatever they ask me to do. Their decision is my decision but I will ask everyone.’

It should be interesting to know that Singh announced his decision on a day when BJP chief Amit Shah was touring Rajasthan.

Shah addressed a public meeting in Sawai Madhopur district's Gangapur before heading for another event in Kota.

It is still not known whether Shah was aware about Singh’s decision during these rallies.

Addressing the rally, Shah said that Bangladeshi migrants are like termites and each one of them will be struck off the electoral roll.

Referring to the draft National Register of Citizens recently published in Assam, he said, the BJP government brought NRC and prima facie identified nearly 40 lakh illegal immigrants. The BJP government will pick out each and every infiltrator , he said.
