One Card One Nation: PM Narendra Modi launches common mobility card, here are its benefits

Mar 6 (AZINS) In a first, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) to enable seamless travel by different metros and other transport systems across the country.

The customers may use this single card for payments across all segments including metro, bus, suburban railways, toll, parking, smart city and, retail. The stored value on card supports offline transaction across all travel needs with minimal financial risk to involved stakeholders.

Based on One Nation, One Card model, NCMC would enable seamless travel by different metros and other transport systems across the country besides retail shopping. It will address the challenges associated with the cash payment e.g. cash handling, revenue leakages, cash reconciliation etc.

India's first indigenously developed payment system for transport consisting of NCMC Card, Sweekar (SwachalitKiraya: Automatic Fare Collection System) and Swagat (Swachalit Gate) is based on NCMC Standards.

The card is likely to address the challenges associated with the cash payment e.g. cash handling, revenue leakages, cash reconciliation etc.

The idea behind ‘One Nation One Card’ is that a person should be able to use the same card to travel in Mumbai as well as in a remote part of Uttar Pradesh, Amitabh Kant added.

PM Modi on his Gujarat visit, also inaugurated the first phase of the Ahmedabad Metro train service.

After inaugurating the 6.5 km stretch, connecting Vastral to Apparel park area here, Modi also took a ride on the metro.

Modi reached Vastral Gam metro station and inaugurated the first phase by unveiling a plaque and waving a green flag to the metro train and travelled in it for a short distance. The Ahmedabad Metro first phase will be 40 km long, of which 6.5 km is underground and the remaining stretch is elevated. It has two corridors - one from Vastral to Thaltej Gam and the other from Gyaspur depot to Motera stadium.
