India vs West Indies: Behind the success of Jasprit Bumrah's hat-trick there was a Virat Kohli

Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded the Indian bowling unit which rattled the West Indies batting lineup at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Saturday.

Bumrah ended the second day with outstanding 6/16 which left Windies tottering at 87/7 at the close of day’s play. Bumrah’s show lead to the hosts trailing by 329 runs in the first innings with three days of cricket left to be played.

Bumrah even entered record books as he became only the third Indian to scalp a hat-trick. However, what got Bumrah to reach the milestone was skipper Virat Kohli judgement.

It was in the ninth over of the innings that Bumrah started the carnage and got rid of Darren Bravo on the second delivery as the southpaw edged the ball into the hands of KL Rahul in slips.

Shamarh Brooks also could also not handle Bumrah's fiery delivery as the ball crashed into his pads. The umpire gave the LBW decision and the batsman opted to use the Decision Review System (DRS).

Replays showed the ball hitting the leg stump and Windies lost their review.

For the hat-trick ball, Roston Chase was trapped in front of the wicket by Bumrah. The India pacer, however, didn’t appeal, thinking the ball hit the batsman’s willow. Umpire Paul Reifel too did not give them out decision.

This is where Kohli — who was fielding at second slip — asked Bumrah if he was sure the batsman had connected with the ball before it hit the pads.

Before Bumrah could even answer, Kohli asked for DRS. Replays showed the ball hadn’t nicked the bat and went onto hit the pad straightaway.

The ball-tracking showed the ball hitting the leg stump and the decision was overturned.

Bumrah’s hat-trick was complete, with the help of his skipper who went against his bowler and took the decision.
