Court issues warrant against Mohammed Shami and his brother over wife Hasin Jahan's domestic assault charges

An arrest warrant has been issued by the Alipore court against Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami and his brother Hasid Ahmed.

The court has asked him to surrender within 15 days else, else he will be arrested. This is in connection with the domestic violence case filed by his wife Hasin Jahan.

Hasin Jahan, Shami's wife, had lodged a complaint against Shami and his elder brother Hasib Ahmed on March 8, 2018.

The Indian pacer had denied all charges of threat, infidelity and dowry demand. Later that month, Jahan's secret statement was recorded before a magistrate at the Alipore Court and in April that year, she had filed a petition demanding monthly maintenance of Rs 10 lakh for herself and her daughter.

She had also levelled charges, against Shami, of match-fixing and taking money from a Pakistan national, named Alishba, following which a team of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had initiated a probe. However, he was acquitted of the match-fixing charges.

Earlier this year in April, Hasin Jahan was taken into custody and later released on bail by police after she created a ruckus at her husband's house in Amroha in Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, Hasin Jahan reached Shami's house in Sahaspur Ali Nagar village late on Sunday night. She entered the house and went into one room. When her in-laws asked her to leave, she locked herself and her child in a room.

Police said they received a call from Shami's house Sunday night. When they failed to enforce a truce between the two parties, they took Hasin Jahan into custody.

The cricketer's mother alleged that Jahan had forcefully entered the house and created ruckus, SP (Amroha) Vipin Tada said.

Jahan was detained for a breach of peace and produced before a sub-divisional magistrate's court. She was later released by the court after depositing bail bonds, the officer said.

Shami is currently away in Jamaica with Team India and is part of the playing 11 who are taking on hosts West Indies.
