Lasith Malinga bags historic hat-trick against New Zealand, becomes 1st bowler to take 100 T20I wickets

Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga became the first bowler ever to secure 100 wickets in T20I cricket during the lion's third T20I match against New Zealand at Pallekele.

Just moments after achieving the landmark, Malinga bowled a historic hat-trick, dismantling the entire Black Caps top-order.

The 36-year-old also becomes the first bowler to have  2 hat-tricks in T20I cricket to his name. Malinga's first T20I hat-trick was against Bangladesh in Colombo on April 2017.

Moreover, Malinga now has five hat-tricks in One Day International.

He also went past Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram and created a new record of most number of hat-tricks in ODI cricket.

Malinga now has three hat-tricks in ODIs, when compared to Akram's two.

After picking up four wickets in four balls, Malinga was not done there. Dismissing Colin Munro(12), Ross Taylor(0), Hamish Rutherford(0) and Colin de Grandhomme(0) in a flurry, Maligna went to pick up his fifth wicket of the match by dismissing Tim Seifert(8) too.

On the hunt for a small total of 126 in Pallekele, New Zealand got off to a steady start but Lasith Malinga, in his second over of the match produced his age-old magic with the ball and handed his side the advantage.
