Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar addressed a press conference on Thursday clarifying India's stand at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and debunked Pakistan's claims regarding the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier taken to Twitter to say that 58 countries had joined Pakistan at the UNHRC against India's treatment of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, to which the MEA responded by saying the UNHRC has only 47 members. "It means that either they have gone beyond the international community," he added.

MEA Raveesh Kumar said, "The list of countries, you have to ask them - we do not have the list. You have to understand that UNHRC has 47 members, they have gone beyond that. Pakistan is trampling its own minorities."

He added by saying that India responded to "Pakistan's lies and distorted statements" using the right to reply.

"At the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), our delegation put forth our stand. We responded to Pakistan's lies & distorted statement using the right to reply," Raveesh Kumar said.

The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson also added that Pakistan's attempt to polarise and politicize the issue of Jammu and Kashmir has been rejected. "The global community is aware of Pakistan's role in aiding and supporting terrorist infrastructure that they have in their country," he said, "It is quite audacious on part of Pakistan, which is the epicenter of terrorism, is pretending to speak on behalf of the global community on human rights."

Earlier on Sunday, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval had said that Pakistan's efforts at creating turmoil in J&K show desperation as they have "lost face in front of those whom they sold false dreams." 

Today, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar reiterated the statement by saying, "It is quite a desperate situation for Pakistan as they claim to speak on behalf of the global community on human rights" by only "repeating a lie."
