"I regard this as a great achievement of the Indian American community, that if there is an event of this size and you have someone, like President Trump, coming there, this shows where the community has reached and how it is regarded in the US, the respect it commands out there. It is the achievement of the community," External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Tuesday.
"The community stands more motivated, more inspired, more united by the fact that somebody like Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister. I have every expectation..this too will be extremely successful. President Trump's presence..mater of great honour, we would welcome president in the warmest possible manner," he further said.
In New York, the focus remains on PM Modi's address at UNGA which will be the second time he addresses the world body since 2014. He will also participate in various summits like Climate Change summit, 1st India-Caribbean summit and 3rd India-Pacific countries summit. Meanwhile, Imran Khan will also be in the US for the UNGA week. He will arrive in the US on September 21 from Saudi Arabia. Imran Khan has trilateral meets with leaders of Malaysia and Turkey.
There will be at least 3 occasions when Khan and Modi would be under the same roof. Both will attend the reception hosted by UN Secretary-General on September 24 and at the dinner hosted by President Trump.
Interestingly both Modi and Khan will be addressing UNGA on the morning of September 27 (New York time), separated by just a few countries.
