Chargesheet filed against man accused of forging Mehbooba Mufti’s signature

A chargesheet has been filed against a man for allegedly forging the then Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's signature to procure helicopter tickets on priority from Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board authorities.

Sandeep Koul, identified as a habitual imposter, has been chargesheeted by Crime Branch, Jammu for committing fraud by preparing and forging priority letters of Mufti with the intention to procure helicopter tickets on priority.

He was earlier accused of forging the signature of the then External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Koul owns a travel agency in Jammu.

Khalid Jahangir, Addl. Secretary to Government of J&K's Home Department, had filed a complaint to Crime Branch in connection with a letter purportedly issued by the then Chief Minister addressed to the Chief Executive Officer Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra.

The letter alleged that some fraudulent person had prepared fake Demi Official (DO) letter, purportedly under the fake and forged signatures of the then Chief Minister, seeking favour, in the shape of arranging helicopter tickets for his clients to perform Darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Holy cave on April 27-28, 2017.

This led to the registration of an instant case in Crime Branch, Jammu. Electronic trails were tracked to reach the blind end in the case. Documentary, oral, electronic and scientific evidence helped the investigating officer establish charges of preparing fake priority letters, using them as genuine with criminal intention against the accused for fetching more money from the innocent pilgrims.

As per the police, Sandeep Koul is a notorious hardcore criminal with a record of bad conduct.

Twelve years ago, his father had disowned him from ancestral property rights.
