The Delhi Police has arrested two more people including a history-sheeter in connection with the violent protests in the Seelampur area in North-East Delhi last month, taking the total number of arrests in the city to 91.

While eight have been released on bail, 84 are still in custody in cases related to violence in Seelampur, Jamia Nagar and Daryganj.

The two arrested from Seelampur have been identified as Shahzad (23) and Noor Mohammad (19). They were identified with the help of CCTV cameras in the area. The police claimed that they held items like stones or sticks in their hands when they were captured on CCTV cameras.

They were produced before a local court which sent them to judicial custody.

This is the first arrested made by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) since it took over the probe. It has identified 10 more alleged culprits on the basis of the footage.

According to SIT, the matter was transferred to it on January 3 and since then the team has scanned all the available CCTV footage. For videos where perpetrators could not be identified, SIT took help of experts to improve the quality. The two men were identified using the latest technology.

Both were arrested from the area on Tuesday. Police officials said that Noor Mohammad even made videos, took selfies of him during the violence. The police has recovered 10 crucial photos and videos from his mobile phone which may be used to identify other rioters.

On December 17, Locals in East Delhi's Seelampur and Zaffarabad clashed with the police during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC). The protestors vandalised at least three buses and set ablaze a police motorcycle along with other vehicles.
