32-year-old lawyer beaten to death by 5 men in Lucknow; one arrested, hunt on for others

A 32-year-old lawyer was beaten to death by five men in Lucknow's Krishna Nagar area in the middle of the night on Tuesday.

The police has arrested one person while the hunt is on for four other accused.

The death of the young lawyer sparked a protest by fellow advocates taking the body of their colleague to the district magistrate office in protest.

They also blocked traffic near the DM's office and raised slogans against the police and administration. The police was able to end the protest after two hours.

The District Administration has an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh while Rs 50,000 each will be given by Lucknow Bar Association and Central Bar Association.

Police raided nearly 45 locations to nab four accused.

According to NDTV report, Tripathi was assaulted by five men with stones, sticks and rods, resulting in his death. While family members claim the death was related to the lawyer's fight against anti-social elements in the locality Police said initial investigations suggest personal enmity related to property.

"He was involved in a tiff with a person who used to supply ganja (marijuana) locally. He had complained about this to the police but no action had been taken," Sharad Tripathi, the lawyer's brother, was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The inspector incharge of the local police station has been suspended for dereliction of duty.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned the law and order situation in the state. "Is the state totally in the hands of criminals? The state government is a total failure in matter of law and order," she tweeted in Hindi.
