Australian Open: Federer, Nadal, Serena Williams and other tennis stars raise millions for wildfire victims

The Australian bushfires are not seeming to calm down as the smoke has even delayed play at the Australian Open.

The ongoing fires in Australia have killed 28 people and destroyed several thousand homes, most of them in New South Wales and Victoria states.

Seeing all the destruction around, tennis stars, who are present for the tournament got together to raise funds.

A capacity crowd of more than 15, 000 were present at Rod Laver Arena as they watched Roger Federer defeat Nick Kyrgios in a one-set finale.

The money raised by this match was given to Australian Open's Rally for Relief to aid wildfire charities.

Tennis Australia said the night helped them raise nearly 5 million Australian dollars ($3.5 million) for the victims.

Other players who took part included Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Alexander Zverev.

On several occasions, volunteer fire personnel were also invited on the court to play against the tennis stars.

The fund-raising efforts also include various amounts for aces served during the tournament and the sale of merchandise donated by players.
