A top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was gunned down by security forces on Wednesday in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district. 

The slain terrorist, identified as Harun Hafaz, was the District Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen. He was wanted in many terror cases including killing of political activists and weapon snatching in Kishtwar.

He was an associate of Osama Javed, Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Kishtwar who was killed at Ramban by police and security forces in September last year.

Working on a credible input, an operation was launched at a village in Doda district in which the terrorist was killed.

The security forces are currently on the lookout for another terrorist associate of Harun.

On Sunday, three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district's Tral in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier on Saturday, security forces had arrested two Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists - Naveed Babu and Asif Rather - at Wanpoh in south Kashmir's Kulgam district.
