COVID-19 Mumbai update: BMC issues new guidelines on home delivery of food, essentials - Details here

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday issued an order allowing home delivery of food and essential supplies through online service providers 24 hours on all days of the week during the ongoing state-wide coronavirus-induced restrictions.

This comes a day after leading food-delivery services Zomato and Swiggy announced that they will stop delivering food after 8 PM as the Uddhav Thackeray-led government declared a night curfew in the entire state.

BMC's new COVID-19 guidelines-

1. Home delivery of food/essential supplies (e-commerce) through online service providers allowed 24 hours on all days.

2. Students and candidates will be allowed to attend various examinations, including the competitive exams, during the weekend lockdowns and their hall-ticket will be considered as valid for the same.

According to the order, one guardian or parent will also be allowed to travel with the student or candidate.

3. During the weekend lockdown, home deliveries will be allowed whereas in-person takeaway from hotels will not be allowed.

4. During the weekend lockdown, roadside food stalls (including fruit stalls) will only be allowed to provide parcels/takeaway services. No person will be allowed to stand and eat.

5. Movement of maids, cooks, drivers, house helps, nurses and medical attendees providing services to senior citizens and ailing people at home allowed between 7:00 am-10:00 pm.

6. Eye clinics and optician shops are allowed to function within the given time-frame given by the government of Maharashtra, the order said.

The state government on Sunday announced a weekend lockdown and night curfew during the weekdays from Monday to April 30, in addition to a slew of other restrictions. The weekend lockdown will start from 8 pm on Fridays and last till 7 am on Mondays.

Meanwhile, Mumbai on Wednesday reported 10,428 new coronavirus cases and 23 fresh fatalities, which took its caseload to 4,82,760 and death toll to 11,851.
