Chhattisgarh: Complete lockdown in Raipur from April 9 to April 19 - Check guidelines

Amid a fresh surge in COVID-19 cases, the Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday announced a complete lockdown in capital Raipur from April 9. The total lockdown in Raipur will come into effect from 6 pm on April 9 and will continue to remain till April 19. Only essential shops and service providers would be exempted, as per the state government's order.

Raipur has witnessed a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in the last few days. On Tuesday, the state recorded 9,921 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike since the outbreak of infection in March last year. A total of 44 deaths were also reported in the preceding 24 hours.

Earlier in the day, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel held a meeting with senior health officials to ensure the adequate availability of hospital beds for COVID-19 patients in the state. He appealed to the people of the state not to venture out of houses unnecessarily and follow COVID-19 safety protocols.

Till Tuesday, Chhattisgarh had reported 3,86,269 coronavirus cases, including 4,416 deaths.

On Tuesday, Chhattisgarh recorded 9,921 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike since last year.

44 deaths from the novel coronavirus was reported in the last 24 hours.

Official figures state the number of active cases in the state at 52,445, while 3,29,408 patients have recovered.
