COVID-19: Night curfew imposed in Dehradun, schools to remain closed till April 30

Like many other states in the country, the Uttarakhand government on Friday announced a 7-hour long night curfew in Dehradun from 10 pm to 5 am starting today in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases. Following the order, Dehradun District Magistrate Dr Ashish Srivastava, said, "Night curfew will be implemented from tomorrow following the Cabinet order."

All schools from class 1 to 12 in Dehradun district barring Kalsi and Chakrata areas and in the municipal limits of Nainital and Haldwani will also remain closed till April 30.

Meanwhile, Doon School has been declared as a restricted zone after it reported 12 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, an ANI report said. The DM had said the entry and exit to and from the school are restricted and essential goods will be supplied.

On the other hand, at least 90 students have tested positive for COVID-19 at IIT Roorkee in the last few days. The Haridwar district administration on Wednesday declared five hostels at IIT Roorkee as containment zones. Three buildings on its campus, including Katley Bhawan, Sarojini Bhawan and Kasturba Hostel, have been declared containment zones.

Uttarakhand on Friday reported 748 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally to 1,06,246. The active cases in the state stand at 5,384, while five deaths and 327 recoveries were registered.

As per the Ministry of Health data available on Friday, India reported 1,31,968 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 1,30,60,542.

780 new COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the country to 1,67,642. The active caseload stands at 9,79,608 with 61,899 recoveries.
