Airtel starts 5G trials in Gurugram, offers 1Gbps speed

In a bid to provide better internet speeds to consumers, telecom companies in India are conducting trials for 5G. While there is no information about its official launch, both Airtel and Reliance got a green signal from the government to test the 5G services in India.

Airtel has now started 5G trial in Gurgaon, during which, it is giving a maximum speed of 1Gbps to its customers. Airtel's trial is running on the 3500MHz band, even though earlier it was using the 1800MHz band for 5G.

This trial is currently going on in Gurugram Cyber ??Hub and Airtel has partnered with Swedish company Ericsson for it. Apart from Gurugram, the company is planning to test 5G in Mumbai soon.

Airtel has got 3500MHz, 28GHz and 700MHz bands in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore for 5G testing.

As per Ookla, a platform to test your internet speed, India is at the 130th position in the list of mobile internet speed. People in India get the maximum downloading speed of 12.81 Mbps and an upload speed of 4.79 Mbps on a 4G mobile network.

In January this year, Airtel announced a 5G-ready network and successfully demonstrated the 5G service commercially in Hyderabad. Airtel achieved this feat by expanding the existing spectrum in the 1800 MHz band through NSA (Non-Stand Alone) network technology.

Using first-of-its-kind dynamic spectrum sharing, Airtel operated 5G and 4G concurrently in the same spectrum block. During the demo, users in Hyderabad were able to download an entire movie on a 5G phone in just seconds.
