Do you save debit card, credit card, bank account details, and other details on phone? Here's why it is not safe

During the digital era, we have become heavily dependent on internet banking especially while shopping from eCommerce websites. Due to this, people many times save the information of debit or credit card, ATM PIN, Aadhaar card, PAN numbers and other important passwords on their phone or email ids.

However, this habit can lead to severe repercussions as hackers often target these details to misuse someone's private details. A recent survey says that many users still do not follow any security practices suggested by experts and use insecure methods by storing their debit card, debit card and other crucial information on their phone.

The survey, done by social media platform Localcircles, collected responses from over 24,000 people in 393 districts across the nations. According to the survey, 29 percent of the participants out of 8,158 who responded to the question said that they gave their credit and debit card ATM Pin to 'one or more' close family members, while four percent said they gave it to domestic staff. While 65 percent people said they do not share such type of information with anyone else.

On sensitive information like bank account number, debit, credit card CVV number, ATM PIN, Aadhaar or PAN card, the survey said that 21 percent of 8,260 responses said that they had memorised the information while 39 percent said that they store the information in written form on paper.

However, 33 percent of respondents said they store data in digital form on their phones, email and computer, the survey revealed. It added that nearly 11 percent of respondents store important information in their phone’s contact list that can prove harmful for privacy.
