Yami Gautam to make her comeback post-motherhood with a film based on Shah Bano case, deets inside

Yami Gautam has received widespread praise for shouldering the 2024 film Article 370 to both commercial success and critical acclaim, with many hailing her as the ‘Female Performer of the Year’. Post its success, the actress took a break as she welcomed her first child, a boy, who she named Vedavid, with her husband Aditya Dhar. The actress is all set to make her big screen comeback after motherhood with a film based on the iconic 1985 Supreme Court case of Mohd. Ahmed Khan v.Shah Bano Begum.

Reportedly, Yami will be playing the leading role of Shah Bano Begum, a woman who bravely petitioned the Supreme Court for maintenance under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code after her husband, Mohd. Ahmed Khan unceremoniously divorced her via triple talaq. If reports are to be believed, she has commenced intensive preparation to portray the unwavering courage and determination of Shah Bano, a 62-year-old Muslim woman who fearlessly fought a protracted legal battle to assert her rights.

The yet-to-be-titled film is a collaborative production between Junglee Pictures, Vishal Gurnani, and Juhi Parekh Mehta of Insomnia Media. Director Suparn Varma, known for The Family Man Season 2, helms the project, with Reshu Nath who has penned the screenplay. The details of the remaining cast and crew are kept under wraps. It is also yet unknown when the shooting will begin.

Meanwhile, Yami recently shared a nostalgic post as Uri: The Surgical Strike clocked 6 years of its release. Posting a photo from the film, she wrote a heartfelt note wherein she expressed gratitude for getting to play the role of Pallavi Sharma, “another fine female character”.

Besides a film on the Shah Bano case, Yami has other projects in the pipeline. She is set to feature in the romantic comedy, Dhoom Dhaam, co-starring Pratik Gandhi.
