Instagram introduces ‘Nametag’ feature; allows users to follow people without remembering their namesOct 5 (AZINS) Facebook-owned Instagram has now introduced a new feature called ‘Nametag’ which makes it easier to follow people, you meet in real life. The ‘Nametag’ includes your handle as well as your picture. The feature is available globally for both Android and iOS users starting today.

How to try the feature

To try out Nametag, go to your profile, tap the button with three lines at the top, and select “Nametag.” To scan someone’s Nametag, you can either swipe right into the camera, hover over the Nametag and hold down on your screen, or enter the camera by tapping “Scan a nametag” when viewing your own profile. You can also share your Nametag with friends through text messages and over other platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.

Additionally, users can personalize their Nametag by tapping anywhere on the screen or by tapping the button at the top to try other designs, such as colors, emojis and selfies with different stickers as well.

Alongside Nametag, the company is also testing a new bio field at some universities in the US. This feature will allow you to you to add your university, class year, and any relevant groups such as major, sports team, and sorority to your profile. Messages from people who users do not follow will go to their pending inbox where they can choose to accept or decline, similar to Instagram Direct.
