The three disciples of Guru KalaShri Asha Gopal: Meera Kapadia, Chitti Desai and Rupika Kapur performed Indian classical dance debut, called BharataNatyam Arangetram at Chandler Center for the Arts in Chandler. All are students of Arathi School of India Dance http://www.arathischoolaz.com - founded in 1981 by Asha Gopal, Director and reciepents of several international awards in recognition of her dedication to promotion of arts,music and dance.
Meera is fourteen years okd Sophomore Honors/AP student ay Hamilton High School, and has spent the last ten years in learning dancing. She is the first person from her community in India to perform Arangetram.She performed uniquely a Krishna bhajan dance - Krishna kanhaiya-in glory of Lord Krishna- Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Chitti is a fifteen years old sophomore honors student at Chandler preparatory Academy. She has been a disciple for eight years. Her performance of Shiva Padam- Om namah Shivay- was flawless.
Rupika is a fifteen years old sophomore at Desert Vista High School, and has been learning dancing since the age of five.She performed Saraswati Padam -Sharade Var de- a dance praising the godess of knowledge, wisdom, music and learning.
Orchestra consisted of Asha Gopal- Nattyvaram and coreography; Smt Neela Ramanuja- Vocalist; Sri B. P. Haribabu-Mridringam; Sri Vivek Krishna-Flute and N.S.Manjunath playing Rytham Pads.
Emceeing was conducted nicely by Meenakshi.At the end, all three young dancers performed a mix if eastern and western dancing with the touches of Bhangra and Garba and Rap was played as a tribute by admiring friends of Rupika.
Blessed garlands were offered to all five orchestra artists and three debut dancers Meera, Chitta and Rupika.
Vegetarian dinner was served after the performance.
