When King Parikshit was killed by Takshaka, the Naagraja, his son King Janmejaya started a yajna where he started decimating all snakes in existence to avenge his father's death. This is when with sage Aastika's quest the sacrifice of snakes was stopped. The day was the fifth day of Shravan month. And since then every year on the Panchami tithi of Shravan Naga Panchami is observed. Maha Ganapati Temple of Arizona will celebrate Naga Panchami with the Abhishekam of Nagendra Swamy under the Peepal tree followed by Archana and Mangala Harathi. Fasting devotees can offer abhishekam to Lord Nagendra Swami from 6:30 onwards.
