Ahead of PM Modi and US President Donald Trump one-on-one meeting at G7 Summit, the United States has called India's move to abrogate Article 370 as an internal decision.

US has also said President Trump will ask Pakistan to prevent the infiltration of militants across the border. On mediation over the Kashmir issue, US has said that it will only take place if India will accept the offer.

"India’s decision to rescind Article 370 in Kashmir is an internal decision, but certainly with regional implications and President Trump will likely want to hear how PM Modi intends to calm regional tensions in light of this significant move," said a senior US administration official.  

"President Trump will likely want to hear from Prime Minister Modi on how he plans to reduce regional tensions and uphold respect for human rights for Kashmir, as part of India’s role as the world’s largest democracy," the US official added.

"President Trump is very much looking forward to his meeting with PM Modi, where they will discuss the strategic partnership and how they can cooperate more closely on issues like defense cooperation, counter-terrorism, and trade," a senior US administration official has said.

"We expect the leaders to build on very productive discussions they had in Osaka at G20, as well as phone call that they held earlier this week. They will look for solutions on trade front. US is looking to India to reduce tariffs and open its markets," the US official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in UAE as part of his three-nation visit — France, UAE and Bahrain —  has said that India's move in regard to Article 370 was designed to end the isolation that was causing the development of Jammu and Kashmir and to serve the vested interest of a few.

Responding to a question on Article 370 and whether Gulf countries understand India's concerns during in interview to Khaleej Times, PM Modi said that Article 370 move is an internal matter which was taken in a completely democratic, open, transparent and constitutional manner.
