INX Media Case: P Chidambaram to stay in Tihar as Delhi court rejects plea to surrender before ED

A Delhi court on Friday rejected senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's application seeking to surrender before the Enforcement Directorate.

He will continue to be lodged in Delhi Tihar jail where he has been since September 5 after his CBI custody expired. He was by CBI in the INX Media case on August 21.

Chidambaram is facing probe in cases registered by the CBI and the ED pertaining to alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance given to INX Media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when he was the Union Finance Minister.

On Thursday, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court reserved its order on Chidambaram’s surrender application to ED.

Last month, he was arrested by the CBI after the Delhi High Court rejected his petition seeking anticipatory bail in the case. He was later sent to CBI custody for interrogation.

The ED is also seeking his custodial interrogation related to money-laundering allegations.
