Ben Stokes' England create world record in 2nd Test vs West Indies

In a display of their aggressive playing style in the longest format, England's cricket team, known as the Bazballers, set a world record during the 2nd Test against the West Indies on Thursday. Led by Ben Stokes, the team achieved the fastest half-century by a Test team in the history of the format on Day 1 at Trent Bridge Stadium in Nottingham. Renowned for their ultra-attacking approach to Test cricket, England accomplished this feat by reaching fifty runs in just 4.2 overs against the visiting team.

Opener Ben Duckett delivered an outstanding performance, leading England to achieve a remarkable feat in Test cricket. Duckett's impressive display saw him score 33 runs off just 14 balls, setting the stage for a record-breaking innings. He was ably supported by the talented Ollie Pope, who contributed 16 runs off 9 balls as England surpassed their previous record.

The duo's aggressive batting display helped England reach 50 runs in just 4.3 overs, surpassing their previous record set against South Africa at the Oval in 1994. Duckett and Pope's partnership, which included ten boundaries, ensured that England made history on the opening day of the 2nd Test against the West Indies.

It is noteworthy that England holds the top three positions on the list of fastest 50s by a team in Test cricket. England achieved its third-fastest 50 against Sri Lanka, reaching the milestone in just five overs during the Old Trafford Test in 2002. Sri Lanka also appears on this prestigious list, having scored 50 runs in 5.2 overs against Pakistan in Karachi in 2004, ranking fourth in Test history. Team India secures the fifth spot on the list, achieving a 50 in 5.3 overs against England during the 2008 Test in Chennai. Additionally, India accomplished a 50-run partnership in 5.2 overs against the West Indies in 2023 at Port of Spain.
