Los Angeles, July 10 (AZINS) Luc Besson is bringing his version of French comic series Valerian and Laureline through film "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets". The filmmaker says he got addicted to the series as they didnt tell a story of a "superhero with the cape" but real people.
Besson was in love with the storyline of the series, which was written by French author Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mézières.
"It was the 1970s, and it was the first time we saw this modern girl kicking a**. It was not about the superhero with the cape. This was much more light and free and enjoyable because Laureline and Valerian were like two normal cops today -- except it's the 28th century, and everything is weird and amazing," Besson said in a statement.
The sci-fi fantasy film follows spatio-temporal agents Valerian and Laureline as they travel the universe through time and space. The movie stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as lead characters. It will be released in India by PVR Pictures on July 28.
Talking about his love for the comic series, Besson said: "When I was 10 years old, I'd go to the kiosk every Wednesday. One time, I found this magazine called ‘Pilote'. Inside, I discovered ‘Valerian and Laureline'. I thought, ‘Oh my God, what is this thing?' That day, I fell in love with Laureline, and I wanted to be Valerian."
