Ed Sheeran sues after infringement claim over 'Shape of You' costs him £20 millionJuly 1 (AZINS) After being sued for $100 million for allegedly ripping off a Marvin Gaye song, British singer Ed Sheeran is gearing up for another legal battle over his hit song 'Shape of You.'

According to a report by The Sun, Sheeran is suing another singer Sam Chokri after he was stopped from receiving any royalties from his best selling song 2017. Chokri had filed a complaint with Performing Rights Society in May alleging that a large chunk of the song written and composed by Sheeran was copied from 2015 track 'Oh why.' After ruling in favour of Chokri, PRS put 'Shape of You' 'into suspense' mode.

Because of that, the 'Perfect' singer has not received a penny out of £20 million the song has amassed in revenue. The report says that Sheeran's lawyers filed a lawsuit in London's High Court saying Chokri and his songwriter Ross O’Donoghue's actions are 'damaging reputationally' to Ed and have hit his 'revenue streams.'

Sheeran's legal representatives alleged that the musicologists’ report submitted by Chokri, (that said the songs have similar chorus structures, tonality, and harmonic progression) was 'artificially dissected.'

The lawyers are seeking a declaration from the High Court to confirm Ed Sheeran did not rip off the music and compensation from the accusers.

A source told the daily, "Ed’s always been very upfront and honest about his writing. This seems little more than a ridiculous claim against him."

Sheeran has sold more than 26 million copies of his hit album Divide. Currently, he is on Stadium tour around the world.
