Here's everything you need to know about WhatsApp's group voice and video callingJuly 31 (AZINS) Facebook-owned WhatsApp announced the Group Voice and Video calling feature at Facebook’s F8 developer conference in May, and later that month the feature was made available to beta test users on Android and iOS. Now on Monday, WhatsApp has officially published a blog post announcing the roll out of its ‘Group Calling for Voice and Video’ for all its users. The company says WhatsApp “users spend over 2 billion minutes on calls per day,” and now with the update they will now be getting the Group Voice call and the Group Video call as well to enjoy as well.

Starting Monday, WhatsApp users on Android and iOS will be able to make a group call with up to four people in total with the updated app via Google Play and App Store respectively.

WhatsApp users just need to start a one-on-one voice or video call and then tap the new “add participant” button in the top right corner to add more people to the same call (although limit is up to four people).

The company assures that these group calls are always ‘end-to-end encrypted’ and is designed in a way that it’ll work nicely around the world in different network conditions.

To remind you, WhatsApp first launched voice calling in 2014 and video calling in 2016. The company recently said that it has over 1.5 billion monthly active users on its platform.

For iOS users, the feature comes just ahead of iOS 12 release which will also support group video calling feature with FaceTime. While WhatsApp group calling is limited to four people, FaceTime group video calling as announced by Apple at WWDC 2018 will support up to 32 users.
