Was Hulk scared of Thanos in 'Avengers: Infinity War'? Directors reveal answerAug 3 (AZINS) Now that the digital download of Avengers: Infinity War is available, director's commentary is revealing the subtext of scenes, their story decisions and how we got the version of Marvel Studios' tentpole in the form that broke most of the box office records.

Director duo of Anthony and Joe Russo along with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely reveal quite a lot about the story and the superheroes while commenting on the movie.

One of the most frustrating questions about the tension between Bruce Banner and his Green Goliath Hulk was answered by these people.

In the movie, we saw after being beaten up by Thanos on the Asgardian rescue ship, Hulk refuses to answer any of Banner's calls to aid when Avengers are fighting Dark Army. Ultimately we see Banner take charge of the Hulkbuster and participate in the battle that takes over Wakanda.

What happened there? Was Hulk scared of Thanos?

According to the Russo brothers, that is not the case. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, they revealed that the dysfunctional relationship between Banner and Hulk is the reason the Big Guy refuses to help the scientist.

"The Hulk has had his ass kicked before, and so it wasn’t like the minute he gets his ass kicked he’s going to run and hide. It’s really the notion that the Hulk and Banner have a very dysfunctional relationship, which was explored even further in Thor: Ragnarok. And I think that relationship is starting to strain between the two of them and the Hulk is not interested in playing the hero to Banner anymore. I don’t know if the Hulk sees the value in the relationship. They both want to control Hulk’s body. The Hulk brings fighting and strength to the table and he’s not quite sure what Banner is bringing yet. So, I think this is becoming a stubborn push and pull between two very despaired personalities stuck in one body," revealed the directors.

Now, from the leaked artwork for Avengers 4, we know that Hulk will come back to help these superheroes to finish what they started. How? That remains to be seen.
